Once Confucius travelled to the State of Chai in a distant land; There he found the music elegant, splendid, enchanting and grand.

For three months without a taste of meat, he worked day and night; With the magic power of music he turned the wrong back to right.

Story

Confucius Travels Among the States

This sign references one of the most famous episodes in Confucius's life. Around 500 BCE, the great philosopher was traveling between Chinese kingdoms, seeking a ruler who would implement his ideas about good government and social harmony. When he reached the state of Qi, he heard the ancient Shao music—considered the pinnacle of artistic and moral perfection. The music moved him so deeply that for three months, he couldn't taste meat. Everything else became irrelevant. This wasn't just aesthetic appreciation; Confucius believed music could transform society by cultivating virtue in both rulers and subjects. The story became a symbol of how truly meaningful experiences can completely reorient our priorities and help us focus on what actually matters. It's about finding something so profound that it changes how you see everything else.
