In one line

Lot 15 moves from a painful encounter to the practical need for somewhere secure. Its final line gives you something to do after the setback.

The verse, line by line

The traveller finds this affront hard to swallow.

Trouble lies ahead; do not approach it.

A bird’s nest has burned, leaving nowhere to stay.

Seek a sheltered place where you can settle safely.

The Chinese is the Hong Kong published text. The English is a plain rendering written by kaucim.ai to carry the sense of each line; it is not an official or literary translation, and a classical verse supports more than one reading.

Hong Kong and Taiwan texts compared

Hong Kong labels lot 15 Lower and Taiwan labels it Middle. Both verses describe difficulty and end by seeking a stable position, so read the final line alongside the grade.

LineHong KongTaiwan

All four lines have different wording across the two texts. The Hong Kong opening is Hong Kong grades the lot Lower, while Taiwan grades it Middle.

Compare the line on your own slip before applying a reading. Lot numbers match across the two traditions; individual characters do not always.

Su Qin fails to gain office

The traditional title names Su Qin failing to gain office. The poem speaks through the traveller and the displaced bird. Both are exposed, and the last line turns attention to finding a stable place.

The Taiwan text uses a broken egg and an empty nest in its third line. Hong Kong uses a burned nest. Both versions end by seeking stability, though their grades differ.

Traditional palace assignment: Mao palace (宮位), one of the twelve branch positions the old lot books use to file each verse.

Reading lot 15

A harsh conversation can create pressure to respond immediately. The opening line acknowledges how hard an insult is to absorb. The next lines support stepping away long enough to protect your position and decide what response serves you.

For a work setback, first confirm what has actually changed. Keep the relevant documents and identify the next practical task. For a disagreement with someone close to you, arrange space to calm down before trying to settle everything in one exchange.

The damaged nest is an image in the verse, not a forecast that your home or family will be harmed. A Lower Lot in the Hong Kong source describes a difficult tone. It does not make trouble inevitable.

A verse can give you a frame for thinking about a situation. It cannot report what another person has decided, and it cannot confirm that a particular event will happen.
