How We Read Sticks and Build Charts
Fixed source text, verifiable charts, bounded readings
From Liaofan to reading the sign
Four hundred years ago a man named Yuan Liaofan had his whole life read out to him: the rank he would place in each exam, the post he would hold, the year he would die, that he would have no son. It all came true, so he stopped trying. Why push, when the ledger is already written.
Then he met the Chan master Yungu. Yungu did not say the reading was wrong. He said it was accurate about the track Liaofan was on, and the track was his own to walk, so it was his to change. Liaofan began keeping a daily record of what he did and left undone. He outlived the year he had been given, and he had a son.
Drawing a fortune stick has run along the same line for six hundred years. The stick does not fix your days in place. It reads the hand you are holding right now, clearly, so you can see it. What you do next stays in your hands. That is what 以籤觀心 means: read your own mind through the sign.
What one stick can change
Six hundred years ago, drawing a stick was a tool for self-cultivation. The idea is plain: thoughts become actions, actions become habits, habits become character, and character becomes a life. Fate is not something read out to you. It compounds, one thought at a time. What a stick can show you is the first link in that chain: the thought you are holding right now.
That is why this site works in layers. The free reading helps you understand the verse, so the thing you asked about has a frame. The deep reading helps you understand yourself: the same stick, brought down to the exact thing you are stuck on, and why. The last layer is a habit: decide what you will do, come back after you have done it, and check the answer against what actually happened. Not whether the stick was right. Whether you walked.
We do not predict, and we promise no outcomes. See yourself clearly, then walk your own way. That is what this practice has been for, for six hundred years, and it is the only thing we do here.
Where the stick texts come from
The text and fortune grade for all one hundred Wong Tai Sin sticks follow the official Sik Sik Yuen Wong Tai Sin Temple booklet. We do not alter the poems or grades.
Each stick has a base interpretation written in advance as static content. Anyone can read that basic explanation for free.
How the chart is built
Zi Wei charts are calculated by iztro, an open-source charting engine based on astronomical calendar rules. The same birth time always produces the same chart.
You can check the result against a traditional astrology book or another charting tool. General AI chatbots often make mistakes with decade cycles and palaces when asked to build a chart directly. That is why we use deterministic calculation.
What AI does
AI has one job: take the fixed stick text or computed chart, then generate a personalized reading from the situation you entered. It does not change the stick text or the chart.
What we do not do
We do not judge life and death, give gambling tips, or promise to predict the future. A stick text is a mirror: it reflects your present situation and concerns. The decision remains in your hands.
FAQ
- Is the reading written by AI?
- The chart and stick text are fixed and verifiable. The personalized reading is generated by AI on that fixed surface, under our content rules.
- If I ask the same question again, will the result change?
- Drawing a stick has randomness, but the text and fortune grade for the same stick never change. A Zi Wei chart is fully deterministic. Run it ten thousand times and it stays the same.
- Is this fortune telling?
- Fortune telling is someone telling you, with full confidence, what is going to happen. Somewhere in you, you already know he cannot actually know that. You needed to hear it anyway. Nobody here talks like that. The verse has not changed in six hundred years and it does not know who you are. What rises in you while you read it, which line you stop on, that is what you actually take home. Call it fortune telling if you want. From start to finish, nobody decides anything for you.
